吉光片羽 Final Fragments

I love the name of this store, and the goods they have are very well made and one of a kind.

"Lots of people think this is a Japanese word, but in fact it’s a Chinese idiom. "吉光" is a mysterious animal appears in Chinese mythology, and "片羽" is a piece of feather. People usually use this idiom to describe some very precious art pieces. We choose this as the name of the shop because we only carry small amount of each product we sell. And, we love the symmetric beauty of these four Chinese characters."

Chinese Fire crackers

In the old days, we lit up firecrackers to drive away evil spirits. In modern times, we use them during the festive season. Firecrackers are usually strung together by the hundreds so it can be hung down. Each firecracker is rolled up in red papers, as red is auspicious, with gunpowder in its core. The burning of firecrackers also signifies a joyful time of year and has become an integral aspect of Chinese New Year celebrations.

A LORCHA

On our last night in Macau, we stopped by A LORCHA, a Portuguese-Macanese restaurant. The interior of A LORCHA has low ceiling and arches, reminiscent of the Portuguese era. A LORCHA refers to a Portuguese boat and a colony founded by seafaring explorers. Overall, the experience was fantastic, the food was amazing and great service, definitely a must-go spot!

Shanghai 上海, China

Today we have landed ourselves in Shanghai, mainland China. As far as the internet goes it’s a one way relationship.  We will still be able to post on the blog sending images into the ether, but unfortunately have no access to view our actual blog page due to the ‘great internet wall’ which stands between you and us.  Have a great week!
